Airport Authority Announces Appointment of Michael Landguth as RDU’s Next Airport Director

RDU Airport, NC – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board today announced the appointment of Michael Landguth as the next airport director for Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Landguth, who has served as the President and CEO of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority for the past seven years, succeeds retiring director John Brantley.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael Landguth as RDU’s next airport director,” said Terry Yeargan, the chair of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority board. “With the assistance of an aviation management firm and assessment process that involved local leaders, we put candidates for this position to the test to determine the depth of their experience and their leadership skills. We were looking for someone who can drive an organization and can strategically turn challenges into opportunities. The board unanimously agreed that Michael is the person to lead RDU into the future.”

“I have spent most of my career within the aviation industry,” said Landguth.  “And RDU has a stellar reputation. So I am honored to have an opportunity to work with this experienced team and be a part of RDU’s future.”

Landguth joined the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority in 1999 as its vice president of operations. He became president and CEO in 2004.

During his time at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority, Landguth secured more than $70 million in grant funding for infrastructure development, secured three new airlines, eight new nonstop destinations and launched a solar farm project that helped reduce the airport’s energy consumption.

In addition, Landguth is actively involved in the aviation industry. He is an Accredited Airport Executive and is president of the South East Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives Board of Directors.

Landguth will assume his duties as airport director on Monday, November 14.
